(Ordnance Survey map grid reference SU 328 828, on the Berkshire / Oxfordshire border just south of The Ridgeway, on the minor road from Lambourn to Kingston Lisle)

Described by most authorities as one of the finest Bronze Age barrow cemeteries in England, probably dating from between 2400 BC and 1200BC, there are actually not seven barrows at all, but twenty six... however, the main, and most easily accessible group of nine barrows (seven bowl or bell-barrows and two disc-barrows) on the site lay on the north side of the road in a small nature reserve. You can also see three more in a field just north-west of this group, and beyond these is a much older Neolithic long barrow, believed to date from about 3800 BC.

These photos are of the main group of barrows, many of which have suffered considerable damage by rabbits and moles... they look a lot less well-preserved than when I last visited them about twenty years ago...
